Seat Adapter

I am in the process of learning and construction of an electric go kart. I have several questions and I want help with electrical problems. I wish I could this kart with an electric motor and car batteries can be chained for more amps. I have several large AC motors and I was wondering if a car adapter like this (http://www.pplmotorhomes.com/parts/rv-converters/dc-to-ac-car-adapter.htm) will work to power my engine / kart. If you have any knowledge on electrical and mechanical aspects of an entire project like this or know anything about karts that could help me in my project, it would be greatly appreciated. 
By the way, I already have a framework from an old tractor with a steering system, tires, a seat and a nice amount of space for the engine and room for 1-4 car batteries. Thank you in advance or should I use a DC motor / If yes, which would be a good place to get a good one?
Start with a DC motor and batery car. Once you master that, go to your moter AC and AC / DC Power and conditioner. First law of engines: the speed of dc motor controlled by voltage. Speed AC motor controlled by frequency cycle.
